Audiology & Physical Therapy Services

The Pacific Balance & Dizziness Center offers a wide range of specialized tests of balance function. Our goal is to offer as many integrated services as possible to the patient to eliminate the need to visit many different facilities.
Services

Audiology

Audiologists are specially trained to evaluate inner ear balance function with sophisticated electrophysiology testing. Results of these diagnostic tests are often very important to our patients’ diagnoses and essential for treatment planning.

Audiology Evaluation may include:
  • Electronystagmography (ENG)
  • Eye movements are recorded to assess central nervous system and inner ear function
  • Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR)
  • May be used to look for benign growths on the eighth nerve
  • Electrocochleography (ECochG)
  • Test used to assess endolymphatic hydrops or Meniere’s disease
  • Pure tone audiometry and speech testing
  • Provides a “window” into inner ear function for the physician
Our audiology department also offers comprehensive services including hearing aid evaluation and fittings, routine audiometry, Labor and Industries claims, pediatric evaluations, and hearing protection.

Our physical therapist uses the most sophisticated equipment and techniques to evaluate balance disorders. The evaluation takes into concern the patient’s medical status, results of diagnostic tests ordered by the physician, individual lifestyle and activity requirements for work and/or daily living.

Physical Therapy Evaluation includes:
  • Medical History and patient interview
  • Scored inventory of patient’s symptoms
  • Oculomotor examination (eye movement testing)
  • Functional mobility assessment
  • Strength/ROM testing or screening
  • Motion Sensitivity Testing
  • Computerized Balance Testing
Treatment Plan
The physical therapists use the information obtained from the evaluation and interview to make a formal assessment, set treatment goals and execute a treatment plan designed to meet the patient’s specific needs.

Goals of Therapy
The goal of therapy is to eliminate or significantly decrease the symptoms of dizziness/vertigo and improve your balance to maximize level of function and resume normal activities. In addition, patients are educated on fall prevention.
